## ✅ Practical Checklist for Venues

1. **Stick to public domain or CC0.** These are the only categories where the copyright holder has effectively waived all rights.
2. **Avoid CC BY-NC.** Non-Commercial licenses prohibit use in bars, restaurants, and any for-profit venue.
3. **Check your country's PRO rules.** In many countries (especially in Europe), playing **any** music in public — even public domain — may require a license if the *sound recording* is still protected. Public domain composition ≠ public domain recording.
4. **Document everything.** Keep a record of the station, its license statement, and the date you verified it.
5. **When in doubt, use a paid licensed service.** The cost of a background music license is almost always less than the cost of a copyright infringement lawsuit.
